Fixed Cell Phone

Well this documents how I fixed my Motorola T730. As some may know, last week my cell phone screen broke. A nice crack had developed and I could no longer see the bottom half of my screen. Verizon would charge a lot to replace it but it needed to be fixed. I turned to good ole eBay to see what I could find. Most of the phones were going for over a hundred dollars, but I lucked out in getting one for about $75. Well it came in today. I tried just replacing the screen since the one off of eBay’s keypad doesn’t work as well as mine did. Turns out the screen is attached to the keypad, so I was a little afraid of removing the screen. By accident I was able remove the keypad from the circuit board that holds the rest of the phone (i.e. the ESN, phonebook data, etc). So I just swapped the two ESN boards and now I don’t have to pay Verizon $15 to activate the new phone. That makes me happy.

CSC
Well today was about the deadest I have ever seen on a game day. I spent went over to the CSC a bit early today to check that Comcast hooked up the High Definition unit properly and to hook up the surround sound system. Well when I got there, I wasn’t getting any signal on the component inputs on the television. Did they even try? I set it up as it should be, so now the CSC is ready to watch some things in High Definition.

The surround sound system, leaves much to be desired. I guess its more than what most people are used to, but not myself. I was dissappointed in it mainly because it doesn’t have any digital inputs (i.e. can’t get Dolby Digital from the Digital Cable box). Since the unit is integrated with a DVD/VCR, it will probably work for DVD, which is really kind of the main reason for surround sound. At least the systeam was really cheap.

I did mention that it was Football time in Tennessee. Up until kickoff you wouldn’t have noticed it though. Traffic was dead coming to campus. We even had a cookout, but not really many people showed up for that either. The one thing there was a lot of was fruitflys. There has been a fruitfly infestation at the CSC, no food is safe anymore at the CSC. That afternoon, we watched a few of the games in High Def. The people were impressed.

I had a ticket to the game, but decided to stay at the CSC since we had ordered the game on Pay-Per-View. They had all sorts of technically difficulties at the beginning of the game. For the first 8 minutes of the game, we had picture but no sound. Then for the remaining time in the first quarter we had no picture and no sound. During the second quarter we started to get a little bit of static and an occasional picture. Finally around 4 minutes in we were getting it as we should. Cocmast should refund a little bit of money to all the people that order it on PPV since they would have missed about a fourth of the game.

First Post!

Well this is just a test to see if I have this setup properly. You can expect this to be like most of the blogs out there on the Internet, it probably won’t get updated that often. However, do check out my Picture Gallery, it does!

Well, if you know me, you know that I really like to take pictures. Well a while back I preordered a Canon 20D. After using the Digital Rebel at work, I really liked what was possible with a digital SLR. I knew my skills and what I like to shoot requires a better camera than the Digital Rebel, so I had been saving up for the Canon 10D. Well about the time when I had the money to spend, Canon announced the 20D. It had all the features I was looking for, plus it is amazingly fast. I ordered through Adorama. It seems they were the last of the big internet camera stores to ship out, but today it finally has arrived. I had been checking the 20D forum over at DPReview.com and saw that a lot of people were having problems with the camera locking up. Of course, I just got mine like an hour ago, so I haven’t had any lookup problems. I have had problems with images not showing up. They take up space on the card, but neither the camera or my computer sees them. This is something that is very odd and I’ll have to look more into. I think its most likely because my card reader (at work) sucks and is corrupting the file system. It only seems to happen when the card was erased in that reader.
